The camBLOCK™ Story
While filming a documentary on art deco architecture in 1999, cinematographer Stewart Mayer wanted to make his film more engaging through the use of motion timelapse. With nothing affordable or even available to accomplish this, he designed and built his first one axis motion control system.
With the success of the rig as motivation, Stewart continued to develop the system and invested in new tools and technology, expanding the system to include multiple axis and a portable computer interface.
In 2009, after receiving numerous emails from fellow shooters wanting a similar system for the themselves, Stewart created camBLOCK and put his full time and attention into the new system.
With technology developed from numerous prototypes, camBLOCK was different with it's focus on modular and portable design. The goal has been to create the most advanced field portable system that can still handle professional sized cameras.
Since creating camBLOCK, cinematographers have used it to capture real time and timelapse images for outlets such as National Geographic Channel, BBC, Discovery Channel, TNT, numerous commercials, and even 3D Imax documentaries.
As camBLOCK's success grows, we are continually expanding the system and creating new unique tools enabling cinematographers to capture images in new dynamic ways.
